GROUNDWATER
Greenbelt Foundation
The Goal
The Greenbelt Foundation wanted to share with their audience just how important groundwater is in the Greenbelt. Ultimately, the goal was education. Educate audiences, convince them that we need to protect this valuable resource.
Our Solution
This challenge needed a story and characters. With a topic as mundane to some as groundwater, we needed a character who could make groundwater interesting and explain complex concepts in ways that connected viewers to what they saw in their own backyard. We decided to make an educational short film about groundwater told through the eyes of hydrogeologist Steve Holysh.
Creative Approach
We asked Steve to take us around the Oak Ridges Moraine and help us put together the story of water in the region, emphasizing why it's important to the average person. From a small stream at the headwaters we went on a journey to understand where our drinking water comes from and how many people actually rely on it. We used motion graphics where applicable to give context and emphasized visuals that made groundwater, for lack of a better word, sexy to audiences.
